I was watching a video on Safari on my 2015 Mac last night but also wanted to read something else online. I have Googled to see whether it is possible to split the Safari browser so I could view the video tab on one part of the screen and have the other web page beside it so I could browse whilst watching, but I can only find instructions on how to use two different apps in split screen.

Is what I am asking even possible, or would I need to install a different browser, say, Firefox, so I could do what I am asking?

I don't know of a true "split screen" command in Safari. What you can do is open two tabs, then resize the window to half your screen. Now drag one of the tabs to the desktop. This will create two windows.

Or just open a New Window in Safari. Look under its File menu.
