Splitting/joining folders

I need a way to split a folder of about 82 GB into segments of about 3.5 GB

Most of the files are bigger than 3.5 GB so rearrange files into several folders is not an option

I searched the internet but I could only find applications that let you join/split files

I need your suggestions for applications capable of joining/splitting files (that can be launched on Snow Leopard

Most compression programs allow spanning (which is what you want). Just compress the whole directory and have the program save it as 3.5 gig chunks. If you lose any single chunk you may lose all the files though, so be careful with the pieces.
