Quick question for you guys. Beyond a simple splitter for the headphone jack, is there anything OSX will recognize as two separate outputs via the headphone jack? Meaning you split the jack, and each input is recognized in sound options by itself.

Just to be clear, I am not talking about using a usb device like an interface. Strictly asking about the headphoen jack only.

Given that it's an analogue output, I'm fairly sure it's impossible to get the computer to recognise the two splits as separate.
 
Yes the headphone jack is STEREO and has two audio channels. Some software like Logic and Garage Band can treat it as two channels of mono.
