Hi all,
After a long patience I could finally replace the battery of my Macbook Pro retina 15’’ - early 2013. After one full start and login, then sleep mode to charge the battery I won’t start again.
Summary of the course of event.
- Computer started to shut down unexpectedly upon start of 2019 when reaching about 20% battery
- Situation worsened since mid 2019. Happened more often.
- Got rid of the original snow Leopard install for a clean Mojave one early 2020. Made no difference.
- Battery diagnosed consumed by Apple store in Feb 2020. I was advised by the Tech to get an Ifixit kit and do the job since I was in Hawai’i with a French keyboard and topcase, he could not get such type.
- Situation worsened again since March 2020 : The computer is starting normally but the display remains black. Only the CAPSLOCK backlight is showing the computer is alive. Despite resetting SMC and NVRAM sometimes helped. I have been forced to stop using it.
- Battery finally received and replaced mid-Sept 2020. After a reset of SMC and NVRAM the computer did start as normal with the new battery charged or almost charged. After login I put the computer in Sleep to let it charge for 2 more hours as advised. It never woke up.
I have found to ways to reset the SMC (Shift+Ctlr+Option, hold for 7sec, then release then press the power button, from frenchmac) or (Shift+Ctrl+Option, then Power button, hold all 4 for 10 sec, then release, then press power button as normal). Both failed.
- The next day I try the (Shift+Ctrl+Option+Power button) and the computer started. I then connect a hard disk, copy a few movies to play and discharge the battery, no prob. Then I start to play one and it crashed again. Going for a restart with starting sound and no display. Resetting the SMC won’t make any difference.
Conclusion : the computer is able to start and work as it should with a low power demand. But it only starts sporadically. The symptom are the same as before replacing the battery although it is the only failed/consumed point that has showed up during the diagnosis.
Can anybody help on this matter?
Many thanks in forehand,
Anton
