Do you think the Sports band will be able to clean easily, or do you see scuffgate 5.0 on the horizon?

Fluoroelastomers are used in industrial applications that are subject to high heat and abuse - used in seals, etc. It will be stronger than any other plastic used for watches out there, so I would wring my hands about it.

According to Apple:

I love how people bombard apple sales and support people the minute something is announced and expect more information. These people found out about the product the moment you did and are reading the same product info you are. Most of them won't even touch the products before we get our preorders on launch day!

I only consulted Apple chat so that I could get a wider picture quickly.

Might be worth mentioning that according to Apple.com, the Sport Watch comes with two bands in the box. Perhaps Apple don't expect them to stay pristine long?

The two bands are different sizes: S/M and M/L. Presumably Apple thought that would be simpler and easier than having to know your band size at the time of purchase.
