We currently have 28 teams in the league. New members should still be able to join until the end of the first round of matches. Even if you miss the first few matches, you can still enter an eligible team.

If you’re looking for a challenging fantasy football game, one in which you’ve got to make a lot of decisions, this might be for you. And if you’ve never played one of Sportsdeck’s games before, the World Cup game is a good introduction because there’s no budget or fluctuating prices to worry about.

Here’s the link to the league -

Leave the postcode section blank unless you live in Australia or New Zealand, and remember to select which team you support when you sign-up.

Game Guide
  • The game is free to play. You can pay for the Assistant Coach but it’s not necessary to be competitive.
  • It’s an Australian-based game but anyone can sign-up and play. There’s a small prize fund but it’s restricted to residents of Australia and New Zealand.
  • You must select 15 players - 2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders, and 3 forwards.
  • You are restricted to 2 players per country during the group phase but that increases during the knockout stages.
  • You have a total of 36 trades for the tournament and can make up to 6 trades per round.
  • The game operates on a rolling lockout basis. Players are locked-in to their position in your team when their teams play, irrespective of whether they take part.
  • During the first game week, you have unlimited trades as players are only locked-in when their teams feature.
  • You should be able to update trades during a round. For example, if you replace a player with one who you subsequently find out won’t play, you have the option of swapping them for another player who has yet to feature. It will still only be classed as a single trade. This was a new feature in the Premier League game this season but I can’t see it mentioned in the Help section.
  • There are numerous formations.
  • You nominate a captain and a vice-captain from your starting 11. The captain scores double points. If the captain doesn’t play, your vice-captain scores double points.
  • If a player in your starting 11 doesn’t play, they will automatically be replaced by the lowest positive-scoring player in that position on your bench. So, if you played 4-4-2, you would have 1 substitute for each position. If you played 5-2-3, you would only have subs for your goalkeeper and midfield. There would be three midfielders on your bench and the lowest positive-scoring one would come in if either of the two midfielders in your starting 11 didn’t play.
  • You can change your captain, vice-captain, make trades (transfers), substitutions, and change formations throughout the game week, but once a player is locked-in, denoted by a small padlock symbol, that will reduce your options.
  • There’s a chat section for members of the league and you’re welcome to join in. You will see a link in the top right-hand corner of the screen (except in the Lobby). Make sure you set the league as your default league.
Captain's Tactic
There's a specific tactic for maximising your captain’s points. It works best with goalkeepers.

You include a non-playing, third-choice, goalkeeper in your starting 11 and assign the captaincy to them. You select a vice-captain from the players that feature before your non-playing goalkeeper.

If your vice-captain does well, leave the captaincy with your non-playing goalkeeper. Your vice-captain will score double points because your captain won’t play and your goalkeeper will be replaced by the substitute goalkeeper on your bench.

If your vice-captain does poorly, switch the captaincy from your goalkeeper to another player who has yet to play. That way you get a second chance to maximise your points.

The key thing to exploiting this is the order of the matches. If your non-playing goalkeeper plays in an early match, it will reduce or eliminate your opportunities to use this tactic.

The league is unlimited so feel free to join. The only restriction is that you enter your team before the first round is completed.
