I've got a 2 spot colour job which prints and PDFs oddly.

The image is a duotone blue and I've laid the same image over the top as a duotone orange to give some depth.

I'm using Quark 7.1 and have set the bottom image as knockout and the top as overprint.

When I try to PDF though, a large chunk of the orange image disappears.

The top image is a screenshot in Quark, the bottom as a PDF in Acrobat. It prints out as the PDF. Any ideas?

I've seen this before. You have several options:

Place a greyscale .TIF in Quark, and colorize, duplicate, then overlay.

Create the Duotone in PS (you've actually got two monotone images that you're overlaying.) and place that file.

Create a Multichannel PS file, each spot channel the appropriate color. Copy the channel from your greyscale/monotone image into the spot color channels in your Multichannel image, (you'll start with a CMYK/RGB image, adding the other two channels and then delete the CMYK/RGB channels,) leaving just the two channels you need. This is probably the way that I would do it ...

If this doesn't make sense, PM me and I can discuss further.
