Spotify has announced new features coming to its mobile app this month that aim to provide new ways for users to access their recently played history and discover new music.

The upcoming update adds a new History icon to the top of the Home screen. Tapping the icon (which looks like Apple's Time Machine icon) displays a screen containing up to three months of listening history in the form of individual tracks. These also include links to the playlists, albums, or shows that the songs were played from.

The History section will be available to both free-plan members and Premium subscribers.

Coming exclusively to Premium users, a new section of six tiles at the top of the Home Screen will show new and relevant podcast episodes. New episodes will be marked with a blue dot, and episodes already started by users will display a progress bar indicating how far into the episode they are.

Lastly, another Premium-exclusive feature is a new section that will sit under these six tiles to highlight new releases from followed artists. Spotify says this section will be "personalized, timely, and reactive to your taste."

Spotify says the redesigned Home interface will begin rolling out to both Android and iOS users globally this month.

Support for HomePod/Siri.. just a suggestion.
I'm thinking that since iOS 14.5 lets you select your audio source app (Music, Spotify, etc.), that this functionality will come naturally to Siri on all devices with the next round of software updates, so hopefully HomePod too.

How long until we get Apple's take on the Yautja wrist gauntlet (ie. the Predator wrist computer)?

Anyone know if there's a technical reason why they haven't added downloading playlists to the apple watch yet? Apparently it's available on some Garmin smartwatches. Would love that feature!

Great news! I have often wanted to see play history when Spotify is playing on other devices, but it's not available currently in the mobile app.

They need to move the podcasts and shows to another app or give us a toggle to hide all podcasts and shows.

Yeah, but it's not as bad a problem as it used to be. At least lately it hasn't ruined my vide by randomly starting to play some podcast while I'm streaming music. And Podcasts now seem confined to the "home" and "podcasts" tabs, they don't randomly appear elsewhere any more? So I think they've more-or-less fixed this already.

Looks cool, but someone explain to me why they are ignoring our request for the ability to pin our playlists to the top of our library, instead of the mess currently...
Using the Spotify app on Windows, I can rearrange my Library and put my most-used playlists at the top, and on my iPhone, the Spotify app shows my newly updated library. Is this different than what you are suggesting?

It doesn't seem they are doing much of anything with the watch app. It's still very buggy and frequently it will just stop playing altogether and requires either force-stopping the app on the watch or restarting the watch.

I would like to see more stability first, then new features.

I agree. I only listen to one podcast, consistently over the past several months, and my Home Screen is flooded with other podcast suggestions rather than music which is primarily what I use Spotify for.

What about offline music on the Apple Watch - is anyone at Spotify aware that this is a thing?

If Denon HEOS wasn't holding me back - I would be off to Apple Music long ago ...
