I installed Spotify on my macbook pro (10.9) but noticed that it uses my discrete graphics card. This takes a hit on my battery life and I cannot even revert it back to integrated using gfxcardstatus because spotify helper is running. I even tried setting the boolean value of NSSupportsAutomaticGraphicsSwitching to false and this doesn't work. How do I stop spotify from using my discrete and use my integrated card instead?

You could try quitting the helper and then use gfxCardStatus to force iGPU only before relaunching Spotify. I always leave my MBP on "integrated only" and simply switch it to discrete manually if I need it, so I never have a problem when using Spotify.
