On my old AW Ultra 1, I had enabled cellular service so I can stream music on Spotify while at the gym or on walks. It has only worked maybe a handful of times flawlessly, but most of the time it would have issues connecting to the cellular service and my AirPods. It would either (1) work for a few minutes, then Spotify would say there was an issue connecting and after multiple times of force quitting Spotify on the apple watch, then it would finally work. (2) Spotify and my AW Ultra 1 would keep trying to connect to my phone which was left in the car and the music would stop, then start again, then stop, then after restarting the AW Ultra 1, it would finally connect to cellular. Because of all the issues, I had stopped doing this for a few months.

Fast forward, I purchased an AP Ultra 3 a few days ago and got cellular set up. I tried to use my AW Ultra 3 at the gym yesterday with my airpods and it worked after about 5-10 minutes of it trying to connect back to my phone (that was in the car). Today, while trying to be on cellular service at my gym, it took about 15 minutes to get it to connect to my airpods, then while working out, the music would play for about 30-60 seconds, then stop. I would have to press play and it would restart the song. It drove me nuts so I had to grab my phone from the car.

I have tried multiple ways to try to get Spotify and my apple watches to not keep searching for my phone, such as (1) force quitting Spotify on my phone and (2) parking my car in the back of the parking lot so the phone is very far from my watch.

For those of you who have switched from Spotify to Apple Music, or Apple Music to Spotify, which one works better for you with your apple watch and cellular service? Any feedback for either app? I ordered a 17 Pro Max which should arrive in about a week and a half and usually Apple gives 3 months of Apple Music for free, so I am thinking of making the switch, but I want to know if Apple Music works better than Spotify. Thank you in advance!

I’ve no experience of Spotify but the watches trying desperately to cling onto the iPhone always happens. If I am heading out with just my watch, I put my iPhone in airplane mode to force the issue. Just toggling off bluetooth and wifi would have the same effect I think if you don’t want your phone to be offline in the car.

As said, no opinion on Spotify but I and all my family are happy with Apple Music and it works well enough on the watch. Streaming anything on the watch will hammer your battery though so it’s a good idea to sync across a bunch of favourite tracks that you can use as well.

Thank you! I have not thought about putting my iPhone into airplane mode when leaving it in the car. Stupid question, but will find my still work if the phone is in airplane mode?

I am well aware of the battery draining. My AWU 3 went from 100% to 80% by the end of the day because I had my music streaming from the watch for about 30ish minutes. On my old AWU 1 it would go down about 40% whenever I would go to the gym.

Also i've been seeing that Apple Music has better sound quality compared to Spotify, but I am not sure if that will be noticable using airpods or streaming via bluetooth.

spotify works fine on my awu3 when I walk the dogs leaving my phone at home, reception deadspots aside

Turn off BT on the phone. Or even better, set up a shortcut to turn BT off for a period of time and then turn it back on again.

I've never had issues with Spotify on my U1 or U3, but I don't stream via cellular, I just listen to music downloaded to the watch.
