I have huge external drives that I need to transport around to Macs running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) Snow Leopard, (10.6), and Lion (10.7).
It seems to be that when move the drive from Leopard to Lion, Lion spends a long time reindexing it. Then when I move the drive back to Leopard, it spends another long time reindexing it. Disabling indexing of the drive is not a viable solution because it's huge and I rely on it being indexed to find things. I need a way to have working indexes on all 3 versions of the OS.
I'm guessing this is a problem that's going to require some kind of Terminal command line solution, like creating separate spotlight directories and moving them around.
Ideas anyone? Even educated guesses about partial solutions would be welcome.
