As per title in the last week or two my spotlight search has started to play up. Tapping the spotlight icon (magnifying glass) will just return a beep. Search in a finder window still works and havent noticed any other issues. The only way I've found to get it working again is to reboot.

System details are as follows:

rMBP 13, 2.6GHz, 16GB
OSX 10.9.4
Installed from new and transferred files/installed sw (no backup) about 6 months ago.

Its getting annoying as I use spotlight to launch programs/find files largely.

Oh and I noticed most people who've mentioned spotlight issues have been to do with the mail App, but I don't use that.

Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app and use the code;
Code:
sudo mdutil -E /
. Then let it run until it;s dome (no more dot in the Spotlight Finder icon. This will rebuild your Spotlight index.

Thanks, I've given it a shot, hopefully a re-index fixes it.
