spotlight crashing

spotlight keeps freezing and beachballing when i try to search anything.

it may have something to do with yesterday when i killed the mdworker process in terminal becaues it was eating up too much cpu

spotlight doesnt find anything besides dictionary definitions, but it does it really slowly with lots of freezes and beachballs
 
i fixed it by removing the spotlight index and the spotlight pref files and then restarting.
