When I search on Spotlight for an application, say, Safari, two results appear: Safari-Macintosh HD, and Safari-Applications.
This only started today: what caused it?

Did you happen to duplicate your applications folder? I think that might be it because when I had applications on my Time Capsule, it would show both. Or is it that you moved them to an external drive/network drive? Overall I believe Spotlight is seeing two versions of the applications showing you two versions in two different places.

I had a poke around but didn't find anything: where should I try and find the duplicated applications?
Edit: I opened up the search results and found my applications folder duplicated inside itself. Thanks so much:cool:

search “safari” in spotlight, then do show all, look to see two safari icons, if you click on one of them it will show the location on the bottom of the finder window, that should be where they are
