Spotlight not indexing in Leopard.

I tried searching first but could not find a conclusive answer to my particular problem.

Last night I did an A/I of Leopard on my 2.33 GHz C2D iMac and when I went to spotlight it stated that it needed to index first which I thought was no problem. Come two hours later, the spinning white/blue bar was there and there was still no estimated time given for the index to finish. Is there a wway to fix this? Or am I being impatient?
