Spotlight not indexing

I just replaced the hard drive in my MBP and Spotlight keeps trying to index and failing. It seems to be causing the fan to run fast.

Is there anyway I can fix this or disable spotlight?

I'm using a 13-inch, Late 2011 with Lion 10.7.5
