Spotlight not working

This:

TokesMacPro:~ toke$ sudo mdutil -i on /
/:
	Indexing and searching disabled.

Obviously Mail can't find anything.
How can I enable Spotlight?

Okay, found the cure:

You need to delete hidden file ".metadata_never_index" from the root.

Frustrating to first browse through 99 guides how to disable/enable boot drive from Spotlight settings in System Preferences...

I have no idea.
Fresh installation of 10.9.4. with SFOTT to MP1,1.
Migration was pain, since I had over 100 000 spams in active Mail directory.
Maybe there was a hick-up when I was sleeping.
Before next installation, I'll try to remember to archive those spams...

If these are as you say really "Spam", why would you want to "archive" them rather then do like most and delete them?

Showing real spam is the only real way to teach spam filter what's spam.
