iPod touch Spotlight only reports 2009 events

iPod touch 2G with OS 3.1.1 -- Glad to have Spotlight implemented in this OS update, but it doesn't find events prior to 2009. The events are there. I can go manually to various dates years ago, and there they are! But a Spotlight search ignores them. Thanks in advance.

heck, mine doesn't go back more than 3 months when I search.
