Hello
Try this and see what I mean:
1. Create 2 text documents with whatever app you like, ie with TextEdit. The contents are irrelevant.
2. Save them both in the same folder wherever you like. I used TEST on the desktop. Use the following names:
søknadtest1.txt
SØKNADTEST2.txt
(If you don't have a Norwegian keyboard you can just copy the names from here and paste them on the Save As dialog box.
3. Use spotlight to search for your just created files like this: Search for søknadtest. You will see that you will only get "søknadtest1.txt" in the results.
4. Search now for SØKNADTEST. You will get just SØKNADTEST2.txt in the results.
It appears to be the text string "søk" that is giving problems to Spotlight. I have tried other text strings and they don't trouble Spotlight, it works fine and it does not discriminate between lower case and upper case, or even a combination of both. You can search for mother and mOtHEr and it shows the same results.
I have already rebuild the Spotlight index as indicated by Apple in this article: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes - Apple Support https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716. It did not work for fixing this problem.
Other searching programs like the excellent Easyfind from EVONtechnologies do not have this problem.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
