Recently jailbroke my 3GS with jailbreakme.com, which was running ios4.01. Yesterday it crashed springboard and went into safe mode. Usually when I remove the last installed extension it returns it to normal, but this time despite removing a while host of packages it just remained in safe mode. I downloaded crash reporter to see what it says, and it says the primary suspect is dyld, but I have no idea what that is!

Can somebody help me out?

Happened to me too after upgrading and then using APTbackup to re-install my Cydia apps. I had to do a complete restore and then re-jailbreak to fix it. I then re-installed my Cydia apps one by one and I've been fine. There must have been something 4.01 didn't like that I had installed on my 3GS with 3.12.

Good luck!

was hoping I could have avoided the restore, but o well just went ahead and did it. Syncing everything now. I backed up all the apps using rock, so hopefully wont take too long to reinstall everything!

Yeah, I was hoping the same thing but it was so annoying that I gave in and re-did it all... luckily it didn't take too long and all has been well since.

I restored and then re-jailbroke and then restored with APTbackup, and its doing it again! ahhhhh...i dont know what is going on, so frustrating! HELP!

well when you backed "EVERYTHING" up and "REINSTALLED EVERYTHING" you put the culprit back on!

you will have to delete apps one by one to fix it. there are alot of apps that are not compatible with 4.0 and that is your cause.... especially if you have cracked apps!

so theres no need to restore? just go and delete everything one by one?

AptBackup is a crap app. Don't use it.

Also, the other posters are correct. With a situation like this, you have to re-install the apps one at a time, until you identify the offending app.

Buy PkgBackup. It works 100%, I have used it for many restores and upgrades.

However, with this crashing situation, don't put them all back at once.

Should I go ahead and restore, or should i delete things and see if that works? To be hones t I have deleted pretty much everything other than the big apps.

If it were me and I couldn't figure out the offending app, I would sync with iTunes, restore, choose set up as new, NOT restore to backup.

Then only install the Cydia apps you will really use, and one at a time. If one crashes it to the springboard, use Cydia which runs in safe mode to remove it, then reboot.

Remember, there are still a big bunch of Cydia apps that don't run in 4.0 firmware (they haven't been updated)

Uhm... don't use APTBackup to restore your Cydia apps... do them one by one. That's what's causing the problem. I deleted almost all of my Cydia apps and could not fix the problem until I did a complete restore. Something we were using before the upgrade is not playing nicely and if you restore all of them you're also getting a lot of "helper" type apps that you don't see that might be the problem. For now start over and go slowly.

Im havin the same problem...i downloaded a theme for cydia and then it entered in safe mode! i tried uninstalling it, i tried uninstalling winterboard and many of my cydia apps but i still have the safe mode alert!! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!! i rele dont wana restore it!!
THANK YOU!

I FOUND THE PROBLEM NO WORRIES! it was one of my old extensions that for some reasons wasnt workin anymore...

safe mode fix

my iphone 3g kept going into safe mode so i downloaded crash reporter. it stated that the problem was LockDockBar. i removed it and it fixed it. im running OS 4.2.1

What's the cause of crashing? This has been happening since I got an exchange.

Would the type of jailbreak cause this? I used jailbreakme.com

I've had the same problem dyld crashing !!
& iphn was stuck in "SM" Really frustrating it was
I removed "preferenceloader " by deleting Rhis package
it removed the conflicting packages " WITHOUT deleting all packages & re-jailbreaking my iphn
Be warned
it will remove Atleast 5-10 cydia packages depending on what you have installed But WON'T remove all or any Nesassary packages for Cydia to funtion properly

Hope this is helpful and easier for you frustrated
Iphn users. ✌

Find the package " Preferenceloader " and delete that B' tch If you can't find it re load it from and then delete it and all your problems will dissapear

If you don't have OR CANT FIND "PF " go to "manage" On cydia click settings top left corner will bring you to the
"WHO ARE YOU PAGE". Change it from USER to Hacker ..then search & add
"Preferenceloader" then. Delete that b'tch

Take note of the packages it removes so you can add back the 1'ns you want to keep

Hope that helps ✌✌✌✌

I'm new to this so should i download Rock to back up jb apps and add ons??
Every time i get my iPhone just the way i like it i restart my phone then i gets stuck on the white background black apple logo screen what could i do to prevent this so i don't have to restore iPhone and add everything all over

If you back-up you will keep the same crashing problem and reload it again " it's a compatability problem with those packages and "dyld"

Search for " preferenceloader" and delete it
Yes this will delete some packages but you can reload them with ease take a "screenshot " b4 confirming & removal of "preferenceloader" that way u have the names of all the packages u removed

This ONLY WORKS WITH THE "dyld" springboard crash
