iPhone Springtomize 3 status bar time date problem

I am trying to change add the date to my status bar using Springtomize 3.

I enable Custom Time, and then I enter the string:
M/d/yy - h:mma or M/d/yy - h:mmsa

all that happens is the time is replaced with actual typed out string shown in the status bar, instead of any representative numerical values.

What am I doing wrong? I emailed the developer... no response.

All that option does is add custom text.

Kinda like changing the slider text.
