Sprint iPhone 4s overseas

Maybe someone knows this, I have the 4s on sprint, and I'm going overseas for a month. I have a local sim card there , my question is if there is any way of using my iPhone on an gsm network overseas using that local sim card that is activated on a local network? Thanks

If you contact Sprint, they'll unlock your iPhone 4S for you, but only for use with a non-US SIM.

That should be fine, as you want to use a different country's SIM anyway.

The only requirement is that your account is "in good standing" (i.e. payments up to date etc.)

got it, do you know if a jailbroken iphone will work/can be unlocked? thanks
