sprint iphone 5 unlocking

friend wants to sell me a sprint iPhone 5, he says you can get it unlocked,

as far as i know only verizon comes unlocked for use on usa gsm network,
and the att version you can pay to have unlocked.

am i right in believing the sprint will not work? or is he right in saying you can have it unlocked through a imei unlock service
