spurl bar in opera does not work

just installed opera 9.0 and
followed the setup instructions of spurl.
according to the website the spurlbar should work under opera/osx.

however, when i turn on the spurlbar it is not loaded into a bar on the left side but instead is loaded in a "normal" browser window...

how can i get it to be placed at the left side?
