Square Reader Doesnt work with my iPhone but works with My Parents

I bought my iP4 on launch day and bought 2 for my parents about 2 weeks ago.

I got my square reader today and it works fine with their phones but for my phone i need to put patter around it to get it to work. Anyone know why this is? And should I get a new iPhone or what?

Holy crap, how did you actually get a reader? I have been waiting for the longest...
