Bought a squaretrade warranty for my launch day 5S and paid $95 for 2 years coverage and a $50 deductible because AppleCare raised deductable to $79. Just signed up for squaretrade for my wife's just purchased 5S and the newt deductable is $99. Anyone else notice this? Going to cancel it and get AppleCare as I can't see paying a premium for squaretrade.

Haven't noticed that yet, but I would certainly get AppleCare over Square Trade if the deductibles are similar...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the $99 applies to "Smartphones" that aren't iPhones.

Not sure where that came from but on SquareTrade's iPhone warranty page, I'm seeing $124 for 2 years with a limit of 4 claims with $99 deductible. Sure it's 4 claims but I only need 2 claims and cheaper coverage.

You are correct. I ordered coverage this morning and assumed it would be the same as what I bought only 3 weeks ago on my 5S. I see I have 30 days to cancel and get a full refund so I will get AppleCare+ then cancel this nonsense.

Yeah you guys are right, the new deductibles are $99, I ordered before this change so I think it doesn't apply to me. Let me contact them just in case though...

Edit: Just got off the phone with them, they indeed did increase deductibles to $99 for iPhone warranties Purchased AFTER October 21st, anything before that is locked into the $50 deductible.

I think it's if you order the warranty after the 21st, not the phone. My phone was ordered on 10/17, put that data into the form, and my deductable is $99. I wonder how many sales they will loose after this move.

They have lost me... going with Apple Care now. I've used them for all my other electronics. :/

Well, I just called Squaretrade and cancelled my warranty. Since it was less then 30 days they are refunding me back the total purchase price. They didn't even ask why. I tried explaining but the guy wasn't really listening, he was just busy canceling. At least they made it easy. Guess I'm going to the Apple store tomorrow to add AppleCare+.

You could have cancelled online without even calling them. Even easier. :)

You can buy AppleCare plus over the phone too. They send you an email that runs diagnostics on your phone but all easy peasy over the phone.

If I had square trade previously am I grandfathered in?

Yes, someone else posted that you are grandfathered in if you purchased your plan before a certain date. I think the date was around October 21st, but I am not certain.
I'm glad I got it just in time. I went with Squaretrade to get coverage for an additional year over what Apple offers.

How does that work ? Email thingy ? Thanks

Call 1-800-275-2273. Tell them you want to buy AppleCare plus for your new phone....they ask a series of questions like serial number ....then they ask for your email address you have set up on your phone and they email you a link for an iOS diagnostics. You click it and it sends info about your phone to them so they know it's in working order. Then you give them your cc number and you're done!

Bringing up an old thread, looks like Squaretrade learned from their mistakes and now the $99 iphone protection plan has a $75 deductible so it's very similar to AppleCare+. Allows for 4 replacements compared to their 2. Not really important to me so I will most likely get AppleCare+ on my iPhone 6, just letting other people know so they can decide what is best for them.

Or you could opt for the plan with the $50 deductible.
