Okay, I know nothing about computers, but I've tried installing an SSD boot drive into my 2007 MacBook. I know this is the MBP thread, but I'll be installing another one into my brand new MBP so I want to make sure I did it right.

Basically this is what I did, if someone can confirm that its right i appreciate it:
1. Put Old HDD in optibay and new SSD in primary bay.
2. Cloned old HDD to external.
3. Format SSD install Lion from USB boot drive.
4. Migrated everything except my user file from external to SSD
5. Formate/erase Old HDD.
6. Change user directory from SSD to old HDD in optibay.
7. Copy Desktop, Music, Docs, etc. one by one to HDD user directory.

Everything seems to be working okay, but I assume that I'll have to change some things later that are probably still referencing the SSD rather than the HDD. My read/write speeds on the SSD (an Intel 320 120GB) are 130read/145write which seems right for a 2007 macbook...I assume it will be double when I do my new MBP.

I have 2 problems though, if someone can shed some light:

First, I had a 60 GB Bootcamp Partition running windows 7 which i also wanted on the SSD but I can only budget 40 GB on the SSD. The only answer I think is to do a reinstall of windows on a new bootcamp partition, but I've taken the optical drive out and windows won't boot off of a usb or external dvd! Is my only solution to go back into the macbook and temporarily reinstall my optical drive?

Second, and more annoyingly, when I get info on my sad boot drive it appears that there is quite a bit of data allotted to "other" "audio" and "pictures" (see image below). I can't figure out what this is because I thought all of that data is on the HDD in the user file. Is it possible that some apps have this kind of data on the SSD (i.e. Adobe CS5.5)?

Thanks!
