Am I right in thinking apple are shipping two different SSD's with the 2012 MBA's?
Engadget reported 551/521 read/write speeds.Although I'm sure I saw a thread earlier where someone got far less. In the 250 range.
I'm generally not one of these to moan about little things like some of this forum, but I thought this was worth considering.

i think anything < 128 could go either way (tashiba or samsung) I got a samsung with my 256, but i saw a review with a 128 that was tashiba. Everyone who has gotten a retina have all been samsung too. Should put a poll on this thread

The differences in these different brands is numerically relevant, but nothing you would ever notice - i.e. NOT half the speed.

Someone getting in the 250 range is most likely on a 2011 MBA. The 2011 model used a SATAII SSD, the new 2012 model uses a SATAIII SSD. Both models SUPPORT SATAIII though.

OK I reread Engadget's review and saw they do claim those 550MB/s for both read and write.

Check this guy on youtube. He gets pretty much the same results I do.
Now check this rMBP. This machine does get higher speeds but still far away from the ones Engadget claims on a MBA.
Here they compare a 2011 MBA and a 2012 MBA, and again, similar speeds to mine and far away from Engadget's.

So how did they get these speeds? What configuration did they use? Did they somehow tweak the program?

I don't know. We'll have to wait and see more people running tests on their SSD's.

But tbh, 550MB/s in both Write and Read seems a little impossible to me.

I will test my SSD tomorrow, I'm right in thinking the Toshiba is the poorer SSD vs the Samsung?

If anyone with a 2012 could test and clarify which SSd they have, that would be great!

There's a poll in this forum where people say what they have.

There are two exact same threads going on here.
I have Samsung 256GB in my 11" Air (2Ghz, 8GB)
