I bought myself an early Christmas present, a Corsair SSD Force GS3 240G SATA. After the boot it showed for a moment, then disappeared. I spent the rest of the day trying combinations; nothing would make it work.

I read some posts which said they had experienced the same problem. Apparently my motherboard SATA inputs are not fast enough for the SSDs of today.

I tried the SSD in my iMac; it worked just fine. Same for a MacBook. But not in my MP.

I still want an SSD. Does anyone know which brand/type will work?
Thanks,
R

My 2009 Mac Pro uses or has used:
  • Crucial M4 256GB
  • Samsung 830 256GB
  • Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
  • Samsung 840 EVO 1TB

They have all worked in the normal drive bays, the optical bay, and attached to an internal Areca RAID card.
