Hi,

I plan to buy the top of the line 15" MBP with the 500gb and 7200 rpm HD.

My question is that I heard the new MBP uses Sata 3, can I just buy my own SSD from newegg and put it in the original hard drive slot and get the optibay and put the 500GB HD in the optical drive slot? I'm not sure which part will have a conflict with SATA 3.

The primary SATA port is 6GB/s, and the optical drive port runs at 3GB/s.

So the answer to your question is yes.

if its sata 3 u're after

buy a vertex 3 120gb - or 240gb if you can afford to - $$$$

then cop an optibay - even a cheapo ebay enclosure will do place the stock 500gb 7200 in place of the superdrive (its was sata 2 3gb/s in the earlier model, however some newer models also have sata 3 6gb/s)

This what i did, got a Mid April 2011 17" MBP CTO 500gb 7200rpm
couldn't be happier!
