SSD For My Macbook Pro 2011 13' i5 Quick Question

I am looking for an SSD for my mbp. Question is…..I have been reading about trim and im not understanding the definition of it.

I was going to get an SSD from apple but I know there are better one out there for around the same price. My main concern is I dont want to be bothered with "Trim"…..I just want to purchase an SSD….pop it in….and call it a day. Not looking to spend more then $250…….looking for 128GIG+

Could anybody lend a hand and recommend a brand….

Ok….so any thing with "Sandforce or Toshiba" are the ones to look for. For instance, I am looking at the OCZ brand that has sandforce….that would be the one I want correct? Thanks

"trim" is something that happens in the background, you do not need to worry about it.

There is script to enable TRIM on any SSD that is capable. It is just two clicks to run. Do get a Sandforce controller SSD though.

If you're getting the OCZ Vertex 3, don't use the TRIM enabler, it causes random pauses. The garbage collection on Sandforce SSDs is good enough that I wouldn't worry about it.

The Vertex 2 you linked is a SATA II drive and although it will work fine for you, you will not get the full benefit of a SSD with a SATA III interface.

SD cards are super slow, right? It's slower than a USB 2.0 external HD I think.

I think sdxc is meant to be better but I have never tested this since photography is not my bag.

i got the crucial M4 (256G) with the same model 13"; installed it, and am happy.

after much research (and contacting crucial) i opted to NOT install the trim hack; crucial's garbage collection is good enough.

well worth it.

It's fast enough for it's purposes.
I looked into SD cards as a possibility to increase my 128GB SSD storage. The idea of course is that both are solid state devices, so I thought it might provide similar read/write speeds. It's very hard to find reliable information on the speed of SD cards and ports. The SDXC card slot in the MBP reports 2.5 GT/s, which would be quite fast.

Has anyone seen any benchmarks for this?

The Crucial M4 is a good value for money SSD. Just a shame it wasn't released/available when I was looking for an SSD.

I've had my Intel 510 since I bought a 13" i5 6 months ago. Had trim enabled via the hack and had no problems whatsoever. Intel are considered one of the most reliable SSD manufacturer's, that coupled with good results from Anandtech was my reasoning behind the product choice.

Since I was interested in the SD card possibility, I looked for benchmarks. Here is what I found, from early 2011:

Just one quote from this:

I think a 128GB SSD is a much better option compared to 60GB SSD + 64 GB SD card. I'm also not sure if the Apple card reader understands the UHS-I standard.

I think you should worry about the specs that effects real life use and not tiny little specs, that's for nerds.
I got the crucial M4, super fast and no problems what so ever.

I have an Agility 3, I like it. I do have trim enabled.
