Is it possible that a G4 imac which can read and even boot from a SATA3 drive in a FW external enclosure, cannot read or even see the same SSD when mounted internally?
I know that a SATA2 drive works just fine but for some reason my G4 will not see the SATA3 SSD when mounted internally.
I'm thinking this might be the issue.

It's probably your SATA-IDE adapter. I don't know if there are any that give better than SATA1 speeds, and some don't work with SATA3 SSD.
So, you may want to try a different brand of SATA-IDE board.

Thanks for the prompt come-back.
Appears the issue was the SATA3 SSD, installed a SATA2 SSD using the same bridge card and all is working well.
xBench HDD score went from 31.47 for the internal 5400 drive to 122.04 with the Sata3 drive, so for now I'm happy.
