Hello.
I have a MacBook 1,1 with an SSD installed in an optical bay caddy as a boot drive and large HDD in the standard HDD bay for storage, and have observed an issue for which I seek help.
I have followed all of the advice on eliminating hibernation including the purchase and installation of SafeSleep. I also modified the system using "sudo pmset -a disksleep 1" to keep the HDD spinning as little as possible since I don't use it that often--works great. However, I have noticed that my system still exhibits kernel panic when I close the lid while the HDD is still spinning--when the HDD is spun down the system "light" sleeps just fine.
Has anyone dealt with this or found a workaround? Can disksleep be set to a number less than 1 such as 0.5? This is the last nagging issue that I'm dealing with after spending WAY too much time dialing in the modifications.
I'd be glad to share details concerning my configuration/performance/advice with others looking at the same type of configuration.
Thanks,
UPDATE:
In reviewing the "com.apple.PowerManagement.plist" file on my boot disk I noticed that hibernate mode was still set to 3 despite having used sudo pmset commands and running SafeSleep to only "sleep on sleep". I manually changed the 3 to 0 in the plist file and my sleep issue disappeared. I have no idea why the sudo pmset commands and SafeSleep didn't work and it appears that my mistake was in assuming that these changes actually registered in the PowerManagement.plist file. At this point I am only running off the SSD in the optical bay caddy--HDD removed from HDD bay to simplify troubleshooting--and I will report back to confirm that the problem is indeed solved once I reinstall the HDD. All in all, I found that simply reading and modifying the plist file was easier than the various remedies involving terminal commands and SafeSleep.
