Hello all,

Please find this post as a request for your wisdom.

I realize that there are many threads devoted to my topic, but I was hoping to gain some relatively new insight on my inquiry.

I’m waiting to receive my 2010 MBP 13” 2.4Ghz in the mail. Once I receive it, I want to self-upgrade the hard drive to the following:

(1) Intel X25-M (80gb) – for booting and application purposes
(1) WD 7500BPVT (750Gbs) – for storage purposes

I have done some research on line, and it looks like I will use an Optibay to house a drive in place of the SuperDrive.
However, I’m not sure which drive (SSD vs. HDD) should be housed in the Optibay.

1.If I house the WD HDD in the Optibay, will it negatively impact the MBP? Some research on these forums suggest that there may be risk in housing a “spinning” HDD in the optical drive area, since this optical drive area was not designed to house HDDs.

2.Depending on the answer to question #1, does the Optibay (for those who have this) provide some durability and/or security so that the HDD does not cause any major vibrations or that the HDD is not loosened over time, while in the Optibay?

3. If I “should” house the SSD in the Optibay, is it difficult to install OSX Snow Leopard on the SSD, and configure the Macbook to boot off of the SSD? (Please note that the removed SuperDrive will be housed in an external enclosure, and can be used via USB… think MBA.)

4.Is there any reason why I should NOT purchase a 7200 HDD in lieu of the 5400 HDD? I understand that there are threads devoted to particular subject, but I would like to know if a bump up to 7200rpms would affect (vibrations, looseness) in relation to being housed in an Optibay.

I value the insight that you bring to these forums, and I will appreciate any advice I can receive. Please excuse the length of my post, for this is my first Mac, so I want to be fully prepared before making any serious changes to my computer. If I have placed my question in the incorrect forum, please let me know which forum I can direct my questions.

Thanks!
