SSD in 2009 Macbook Pro and wait for 2013 MBA?

Hey all,

My wife and I have a 2009 macbook pro (4gig RAM), and 2008 unibody macbook (2gig RAM). I'm starting to look at upgrading to two 11'' MBA's. Here is what we're thinking

Option A:
Buy Ivy Bridge MBAs now.

Option B:
Buy SSDs (probably Samsung 830 256gb) for current Macbooks, maybe some RAM from OWC and wait until next year for '13 MBA w/Haswell.

Any thoughts?

If you are looking for more portability then why bother spending the money on upgrading those machines. You can probably sell both and get enough to almost cover 1 MBA. I can say that the SSD and extra ram will breath new life into both machines and will make you think twice about upgrading to MBAs (unless the portability of the 11" is a must) I was in the same boat but couldn't justify spending $1000 when $200 for a 256GB SSD and 8GB Ram got me a 2009 15" MBP that screams. I am running ML and probably won't upgrade for at least a year if not longer.

I was considering the Samsung 830 but opted instead for the Crucial M4 256GB as it was cheaper. It really goes a long way to making my '09 MBP feel like new again and pushes out replacement for at least 2 years for me.

And take a look at Crucial, their RAM prices have been trending lower than OWC.

I'd go with a SSD and RAM. My mid 2009 got a 256GB Crucial M4 and 2 x 4GB Corsair 1333MHz RAM. I won't be upgrading for another year or so and I spent just under $200 on the upgrades.

I have the Samsung in my 08 unibody and it really is like a new laptop. Won't be needing a upgrade for a while now. Definitely recommend
