Ssd in cd drive of mbp

I want to install an ssd in the cd drive of my 15 in mbp but don't want to buy the adapter which costs mode than the ssd. Is it posible to connect directly to the cd drive pins and make your own holder? Or is the adapter necessary? All the ssds are sataII will this work?
