SSD install and OSX fresh install?

Installing an OWC 240gb SSD in my 27" iMac 11,1 and leaving the HDD alone. I will be replacing the optical drive and putting it in a USB device. So can I just leave all the files on the 1tb drive and install 10.8 on the SSD and then move over what I need?
 
You can also move temorary all your not essentially needed data to another drive and clone your hdd to the ssd using SuperDuper or something similar.
