I have installed two hard drives on iMacs and understand well enough the process, i have the temp sensor mounted externally on the drive, so that's not an issue.
My question is; going from a 3.5" to a 2.5" drive will require an adapter bracket, but will i need a new cable for the drive or will the same SATA cable work on both?
Also, i have a WD caviar black 1TB drive installed now and want to use it for mass storage via firewire 800 externally...is there a case you can recommend for this?

2009 iMac
2.66 ghz core 2 duo
8 gig ram
OS 10.8...a very troubled install...

2.5" drives use the same connections as 3.5" ones, so no adapter needed.

Pick a case that meets your financial and/or aesthetic tastes...
