Hi,

Completely new to this, I have found there is an SSD I believe on this device by searching via terminal.

the device doesn't show with disk utility but does in system report

Capacity: 121.33 GB (121,332,826,112 bytes) Model: APPLE SSD SM128E
Revision: CXM09A1Q Serial Number: S0XDNYAD462520
Native Command Queuing: Yes Queue Depth: 32 Removable Media: No Detachable Drive: No BSD Name: disk1 Medium Type: Solid State TRIM Support: Yes Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table) SMART status: Verified

I was looking to see if it was possible to install the OS on the ssd instead of the actual hard drive.

Hope I've made sense?

/dev/disk0 (internal, physical): #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUIDpartitionscheme *3.0 TB disk0 1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1 2: Apple_APFS Container disk2 3.0 TB disk0s2

/dev/disk1 (internal, physical): #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUIDpartitionscheme *121.3 GB disk1 1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk1s4 2: Microsoft Basic Data > 16 EB disk1s5 3: Apple_APFS Container disk2 121.1 GB disk1s2

/dev/disk2 (synthesized): #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: APFS Container Scheme - +3.1 TB disk2 Physical Stores disk1s2, disk0s2 1: APFS Volume Macintosh HD 13.7 GB disk2s1 2: APFS Volume Preboot 22.7 MB disk2s2 3: APFS Volume Recovery 506.8 MB disk2s3 4: APFS Volume VM 2.1 GB disk2s4

Thanks in advance

Isnt this your fusion drive?
It indeed consists of 1 physical SSD and one physical HDD drive that are fused together to appear as 1 synthesized drive to the apps.

Yes, that's right.
Your fusion drive is made up of both a 3TB spinning hard drive, and a 128 GB SSD.
It appears in your system as only one drive.
Your macOS system is, in fact, already installed on the SSD. As you use your Mac, and as space is needed, files and apps are transferred automatically to the hard drive. So, both the SSD and HDD are used. The system is significantly faster than if you had one of the basic iMacs with just a spinning hard drive.
