For what's it worth anyone who may have questions I successfully completed my install of a 256gb crucial m4 into a 2011 imac 27" i5. I removed the original harddrive and replaced it. I will detail what I did tomorrow when I get to work but i'm open to anyones questions.

Just a quick rundown.

-used slimline sata and moved connection to ssd only sata connection on logic board.
-removed original hdd wires and used them to create a jumper between 2&7 on the sata 0 hdd power port.
-I have 0 fan issues and I am not using software control for the fans.
