I've done a bit of searching, but can't seem to find direct answers for these questions

I just purchased a 160gb Intel X-25M G2 drive.

1. How can I back everything up, when I don't have a second computer or an external harddrive? Am I going to be stuck with just reinstalling SL from scratch, and not being able to access my old files until I purchase something like an optibay?

2. Should I turn off SMS?

3. Will I notice any problems with sleep, etc? What should I prepare myself for when installing an SSD?

Thanks a bunch in advance! I'm excited to pop this guy in! :D

1 - ouch; guess you're stuck to USB drives or flash cards - or the painfully slow burning DVDs

2 - probably; wouldn't hurt to leave it on i suppose

3 - get ready for amazing speeds? shouldn't get any sleep issues

Buy a cheap USB 2.5" hard drive enclosure and put the old hard drive inside of it. Then, after installing OS X, hook up the external hard drive and use Migration Assistant.

2. Should I turn off SMS?

I don't believe you will need to.

You shouldn't have any problems, I've seen and used Macs with SSDs and none of them have had problems with sleep. After installing a SSD be prepared to be shocked at how fast your computer is.
