It will work just fine. The 2009 MBP is only SATA2 not SATA3 so you will not get the FULL performance out of it, but still see very noticeable performance gains.

Any SSD cage needed to mount it or just snaps in with few screws?
 
If you are placing your current HDD it will go in place with the existing screws. You only need an adapter if you are replacing your Optical drive with it.
 
You need a Phillips Head and a T6 screw driver to get this done.
The Phillips for the bottom plate and the Torx for drive mounting.
