"Been working lots of OT and so I may buy a SSD. Best Buy wont touch a MacBook so I will need to take my Mac to a Mac shop (I don't trust PC/Mac shops) and do the install."
I see that you finally have come around to the idea of putting an SSD into the MBP.
I'd suggest either a Crucial or Sandisk SSD, but almost any one will do.
There's no need to pay a shop to do this.
You can do it yourself (the physical drive swap) in 15 minutes.
The hardest part is taking all the screws off the back plate, and then putting them back in.
You'll need two drivers:
- Phillips #00
- TORX T-6 (this is used to take the little "bosses" off the side of the old drive and put them onto the new one).
You can buy these online when you buy the drive.
Or, find them at a hardware store.
You might also pick up a 2.5" USB3 drive enclosure to put the old drive into.
If your internal drive is 500gb, you can use CarbonCopyCloner to clone the contents of the old drive to the SSD. CCC will even clone the recovery partition for you as well.
If you can hold a screwdriver, you can do this job.
It's that easy.
