I did something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now- I finally disassembled my 366MHz Key Lime iBook and put in a PATA to mSATA adapter and a 16GB mSATA SSD. Installed 10.4.11 and now... slow! I did not expect a performance improvement, obviously, but I DID expect it to at least be useable. It was useable before, although the old HDD was loud. Now it just beachballs on everything I click. What’s going on here?

Is Spotlight enabled, and if so, is it done indexing? Is this a fresh install? How much free space is on the SSD?

And for what it's worth, I don't know what mSATA adapter you are choosing but I am partial to the ones with the Marvell chipset. Never had a problem with one of those.

Seems spotlight is done indexing.
