This is just a query. I *realise* it's a 'first world problem'.

I just received a new 2012 base 11-inch with upgraded RAM. The SSD is the 64 GB version. I'm not really bothered if it's a Toshiba or a Samsung (though it's a Toshiba).

However, on a fresh out the box machine the SSD is writing consistently at 150 mb / sec and reading at 350 mb / sec. The write speed seems a little slow.

My previous Air was a 13 inch 2010 model, and the write speed was more or less the same at my new 2012 11 inch. Also, for day-to-day tasks my 11 inch does not feel as 'instant' as my 2010 13 inch.

I would have thought that two generations on the SSD would be writing around 250 - 350 mb / sec, and reading at over 400 mb / sec.

My 2011 iMac with a 7200 rpm hard drive was writing at 90 mb / sec, so the increased performance with with 11-inch SSD does not seem massive.

So,

1. Faulty SSD? Or is 150 write / 350 read reasonable, and I'm being too fussy?

2. Are the 64 GB not as fast as the 128/256/512 models? I've seen Crucial and Samsung recent 64 GB SSDs which are slower than their larger capacity models.

3. What do others get for a 64 GB SSD?

Thank you.
