This may be a dumb question, but would a 3rd party SSD (such as the one in the link below) be as fast in a 2012 MBP as the stock SSDs are in the MBA?

Didn't know if there was something inherent in the non-packaged SSDs that Apple uses in the MBA that would make them faster.

The Macbook Air uses a custom Samsung 830 SSD which I believe is a bit faster than the Crucial. If you put that SSD in the Macbook Pro, the pro would be quicker due to the better (more/quicker) processor, ram, etc..

Thanks. So if I put in a 2.5" Samsung 830 I should see comparable read/write speeds?

In theory yes but I don't know if Apple did any special tweaks or anything special. I know I have the Samsung 830 SSD in my 2012 pro and I get 10mb less than the stated speed on the Samsung box which is pretty good. I know my pro is faster than a Macbook Air so I'm happy with it.

Thanks for the info.
