As seen, there’s a slight surface crack. Can’t feel it and it’s not effecting anything.

I plan on doing an SSD upgrade for my late 2015 27in 5K Retina (Apple claims it can't be converted). It’s worth the 160-170 for me to replace the HD but not worth the 700+ to replace the whole screen. I know at this point all I can do is try but I’m curious if any techs out there have seen similar cracks and were able to remove a screen without further issues with it?

I think the crack will grow as soon as you put pressure on it.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it will to.... I did buy the screen removal wheel... Going to see what happens before I spend the money on the rest of the kit and the hard drive. If it spreads, it spreads.... I'll trade it... I think they'd give enough for the taxes at least

Attempted to remove the screen today and it did indeed spread the minute I applied pressure to remove it.... I guess it's a good thing I'm older than I use to be cause it really doesn't bother me enough to buy a brand new Mac..... So I decided to go ahead and replace HD with a SDD and upgrade later this year whenever the new Mac (or maybe even a mini) comes out. I can spend 100 bucks and get at 500GB (I only use about 280 on the HD now) and the adapter cable from OWC for the temp and be fine...... Looking forward to cleaning up in there while waiting for the stuff to arrive....
