Hello I currently own a 2011 macbook pro and installed a 128 GB crucial m4 around six months back. Lately I've been struggling to meet the limit of space I have, so I'm thinking about upgrading. I've been reading up on benchmarks and such regarding the new samsung 840 and OCZ vertex 4 and I was wondering if it I should get one of these or simply purchase an external drive.

I'm not willing to sacrifice my optibay just yet because I've run into occasions when I have really needed it. OCZ aren't as bad as they used to be right with stability and all

I'm partial to SSD in laptops... So, in my case I'd go with a bigger SSD. Plus, I'm not a big fan of plugging in external HDDs all the time, so again, a bigger SSD;)

I like any models that are non-Sandforce and cheap... Both of your choices are fine;) I prefer Samsung though: decent speeds, robust firmware and very low power requirements at idle;)

As someone else who isn't ready to give up their optical drive, I'd upgrade to the 840 or the Vertex4.

What capacity are you planning on going to?

The 512GB Crucial m4 is cheaper than the corresponding Samsung or OCZ and has very high read speeds. You should consider that one too.
