SSD vs HDD? Reliability for backups?

Hello,

How are you?
So, I'm thinking about making some changes to my backup and work drives...
I have an iMac and I use it for general tasks and mostly, amateur photography.

I have my OS and programs on the iMac internal HDD. On that same HDD I have a folder named data with my media files (music and tutorials), and documents.

I backup my data folder for an external 1tb FW hdd.

Then I have another external 1tb fw drive for all my pictures and lightroom catalog. I use that drive as my work drive. I do daily backups to a smaller 320gb 2.5 hdd I keep at another location...

My current pictures files and library is just over 100gb... for some years worth of pictures...

I've seen some hard drive failures and I worry quite a bit about mechanical HDD failures, because of all those moving parts moving at high speeds and the heat they produce...

So, since my pictures take 100gb, I was thinking about 240gb SSD to replace it...
They're price dropped quite a bit... Mechanical HDD's prices raised and so, I can actually consider SSD...
They don't have moving parts, they are shock resistant, and they are fast in regard to transfers and most important, access times...

So, my question... How do they stack up in reliability and longevity against a standard HDD?

I think the cost per gigabyte is such that you're spending a lot of money for a fast drive but are not using it, towards its stated benefit.

I have hard drives that are over 10 years old that still work. I think you're overly worried about the fragility of a hard drive. Given that you have multiple backup drives means your data is fairly safe
