What will happen to the people who used that number (so they did not have to sign up for the 2 yr AT&T contract ) when they upgrade to 1.1.3?? I didn't use that SSN # but a different one so I didn't have to go through the BS AT&T contract, plus I am only paying $53.94 a month as a go-phone. I just want to make sure nothing happens to my iPhone which I take care of very much (no hacks/jailbraking breaking/apps on mine).

go phone??

sorry i am confused, you are using your iphone on GO-Phone network, how is the data speed

yeah, i am using it as a go-phone. is edge supposed to be faster under a 2 yr contract? i must say, i am quite impressed how edge is working for me and i am a very critical person when it comes to my gadgets. maybe it's because i live 5 minutes outside of Wash. DC.

to sum it up: this is the best devices i've ever bought and well worth my money. my only two downsides - 1. it is an AT&T exclusive two year contract and 2. no adobe flash lite.

999-99-9999 does not work anymore.

And as far as EDGE on a contract compared to "prepaid" EDGE, there is no difference other than the difference in coverage areas for prepaid users versus users with a contract. I have no idea why, but most carriers have a separate coverage map for prepaid users

I know it does not work anymore.

What will happen to the people that used that number????

I am just scared as I don't have a SSN # (studying here). I use the phone as a Go-Phone. I just don't want my iphone to brick when I update.

I believe thats not a hack so your phone wont get bricked as ATT did activate your phone. If anything, people using false social security numbers will be dealt with individually and not through a software update.

I wanted to do the go-phone plan as well, but heard a number of people say that using all 9's as a social resulted in AT&T contacting them.

I accidentally stumbled on another method that may be of use. My mailing address is a Rural Route (RR # and Box #). Apparently the system has no idea what this means and will return the credit check inconclusive and offer you the gophone plan as an option. When my credit check failed I got a phone call from AT&T rep within minutes and he explained that rural routes are not recognized, but he could offer me the 2 year plan. I told him I'd prefer the gophone plan on my screen and he asked if i was sure and then reminded me that I can also upgrade to a post-pay contract account at a later date.

For further confirmation, a coworker also lives on a Rural Route and had the same experience, minus the phone call from AT&T.

So if you have a P.O. box address or a Rural Route address you will probably be offered the gophone plan through itunes.
